Leon Lumkins and the Gospel Clefs - "The Answer"
$22.00
The Gospel Clefs 1967 masterpiece sees their highly musical hard gospel sound meet velvet flower powered production. Where before music had been more single oriented by this point albums and more experimental production techniques were being applied, and here with timeless results. From the enchanted settling beauty of “It Would Be Beautiful” to the majestic rendition of “Shenedoah” here Lumpkins lends his comforting voice to the sound more so than on the more traditional Gospel Clefs albums. However the whole choir is certainly in effect on the soaring “He Never Sleeps” and “I Got Over”. All in all this is a very listenable brand of gospel that was aimed at the mass market and yet still retains an enlightened sense of spirituality. This album is not overtly religious, but it most certainly is the answer.
